Welcome to our studio.
Wolf Ceramics is a small team of potters, artists, dancers, gardeners, dessert-first-eaters, occasional dinner burners, and human beings. We like to work, play and rest intentionally — we hope our ceramics are an invitation for you to do the same.
Our Story
Wolf Ceramics was founded in 2016 by Sarah Wolf. A native Oregonian, Sarah followed a winding path through geochemistry, farming, outdoor education and guiding, and considering architecture school before landing back on her most addictive and inspired hobby: ceramics.
After a year and a half of graduate studies at the Oregon College of Art and Craft, Sarah began producing work out of her NW Portland pottery studio, steadily building a mug club and connecting with local chefs and restaurants. Soon her mugs, plates, bowls and home wares were finding permanent homes around the country. In 2019, Wolf Ceramics moved their studio to the nearby town of Hood River nestled in the Columbia River Gorge Scenic Area at the base of Mt. Hood.
Our Process
We are here to make goods that we are proud of, both for their function and their beauty. A commitment to a fair and caring work environment is at the core of our philosophy. The price points of our handmade ceramics are dictated by carefully calculating the time and energy that go into each piece, supporting a fair and decent wage for all of our team members. We source our clay from a local manufacturer before hand making, trimming, glazing and firing all of our pieces at our studio in Hood River. Many of our forms are still hand-thrown on a potter’s wheel, though in recent years we’ve begun embracing molds and other tools that allow us to grow and be kinder to our bodies.
Meet the Team
-
Sarah
Founder and artist. Once a solo studio potter and now the happy leader of a team, Sarah enjoys making goods that will be well used by her friends and community. She values time spent in the mountains just as much as a day’s work in the studio.
-
Joey Rose
Glazing and operations. Joey Rose's shrewd attention to detail and efficiency are integral to operations here. Outside of Wolf, she has a business, designing and creating accessories and leather goods that incorporate fur, animal bone, fiber, and metal. See her work.
-
Skylar

-
Ian
Production potter. Ian joined Wolf after hiking the Appalachian Trail, bringing his joyful demeanor and easy diligence with him. Outside of Wolf, Ian has explored functional and sculptural work, as well as a passion for wood firing. Check out Ian’s pots, paintings, and other larks here.
-
Gloria
Production potter. Gloria joined the Wolf team after completing her BA in linguistics at Reed College, where she spent many hours in the studio thanks to her work study job as an assistant to the ceramics department. She also speaks Russian and is a budding sheep-shearer.
-
